Angelika Kaiser is such a wonderful language teacher, and such a deep and impresssive thinker about the processes of language-learning in general. We had a sequence of German conversation sessions some years ago, but I still remember them vividly. Not only did Angelika help me really improve my German language skills, but she transformed the way I think about language-learning, the intersections between language and culture, and, indeed, the way the human mind operates. I often revert to things I would never have learnt had it not been for Angelika – I'm immensely grateful to her!

Working with Dr. Angelika Kaiser completely transformed how I approach learning German. I had attempted to learn German for several decades prior to meeting Angelika, but somehow I kept hitting the same immovable wall. I had tried almost everything: books, CD courses, Rosetta Stone, Memrise, Mango, Busuu, Babbel, Duolingo, just to name a few. After years of attempts I hadn’t managed to complete even an A1 CEFR level course, and I was frustrated and discouraged. I had started to think that I just wasn’t capable of learning a language. Three years ago I began a graduate degree that required I take a Reading German course by Dr. Kaiser. Although the course was not focused on speaking German, it was the first time that I finally broke through the limitations that I had been unconsciously placing on myself. Angelika helped me understand that my major difficulty was not the language, but the way I thought about learning it. After I finished the course, I started listening to German content in my spare time and completed a free course on Deutsche Welle. Gradually, I began to understand what I was listening to, and soon, I found that I could make myself understood in a basic way when I attempted to speak German. This year, I began tutoring with Angelika, and I have been making real progress—enough that I am now at an intermediate level and I can actively use the language with German-speaking friends in everyday life. Angelika has the rare ability to be both encouraging and patient while also challenging me to grow and push myself outside of my self-imposed limitations. I can’t recommend her highly enough to anyone who is ready to move beyond the empty promises of cheap apps and predatory courses and start believing in themselves.
